The popular Disney cartoon Moana, will be adapted into a live-action film, with Dwayne Johnson as Maui

In a video posted on YouTube, Disney Studios announced that a live-action adaptation of Moana was in the works.

The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Dumbo … Many Walt Disney cartoons are revisited and adapted into films. While The Little Mermaid will soon be in theatres, Disney is said to be already adapting a new animated film which is none other than Moana, the Legend at the End of the world.

“Like its animated predecessor, the film will celebrate the islands, communities and traditions of Pacific Islanders seen through the eyes of a young woman eager to chart her own life. Moana’s journey of self-discovery and reflection on the lives of her ancestors took the world by storm, as did her newfound friendship with an exiled demigod like Maui,” Disney said in a statement .

A remake of Moana
This animated film was released in 2016 and will already be re-adapted. Disney revealed this big project by sharing a video on YouTube, where we can see Dwayne Johnson, who will play the character of Maui in the film.

“It is with emotion that I announce that we are going to bring the beautiful story of Moana to the big screen for a live action! I am delighted to partner with Disney Studios to tell our story through music and dance, elements that are very dear to the Polynesian people. This story represents my culture and is emblematic of the grace and warrior strength of our people. I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this unique opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana (spiritual force) and spirit of my grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is something that is dear to my heart ,” the actor said.
