In Peru, a 26-year-old man was arrested by the police because he was walking with a mummy, between 600 and 800 years old, in a cool bag. He considered her his spiritual girlfriend.
Don’t talk to him about age! Julio Cesar Bermejo, a 26-year-old man, had a “spiritual” relationship with a mummy aged between 600 and 800 whom he called Juanita. This former home delivery man kept it in an insulated bag and was walking around with it when he was arrested this weekend by the Peruvian police.
According to police, the man claimed the mummy had been kept in his family home for more than 30 years and he saw in her “a kind of spiritual girlfriend ”.
It was her father who had recovered the mummy from a policeman who owed him money: “At home, she is in my room, she sleeps with me. I take care of her, I keep her, she is like my spiritual girlfriend,” the young man told the police.
“It’s not Juanita, it’s Juan”
Peru ‘s Ministry of Culture said “the pre-Hispanic cultural property” has been identified as “probably originating in the eastern part of Puno” , a region of the Peruvian Andes located 1,300 km southeast of Lima.
Only here, the mummy named Juanita by the young man would actually be a 45-year-old man: “it’s not Juanita, it’s Juan” explained the Ministry of Culture, after an analysis of the cranial box.
The arrested man denied having wanted to sell the mummy, explaining that he carried it in his insulated backpack to show it to friends before donating it to a museum in the area: “If I behave badly , she punishes me” he explains, describing her as giving off “an energy” .
The Ministry of Culture requested the seizure of the mummified remains in order to protect and preserve the heritage. Juan will finally be able to rest in peace.
