When the vet saw the tears on the man’s face and the pain in the dog’s eyes, he did exactly what he had to do… They say that happiness is not measured by money, but sometimes money decides our fate. An elderly man was struggling to make ends meet and when doctors told him the cost of treating his dog, he realized he couldn’t afford the treatment. In addition to the doctor, there was also an older man and a mutt in the vet’s office. All three were silent, the visitor just absentmindedly stroked his dog and sobbed quietly. The silence in the office was broken only by the bitter sighs of the man who, unable to bear the need to part with his friend, wept in silence. Although he does not have much experience, veterinarian Andrei Alexandrovich has more than once seen the reaction of people who had to euthanize their pets. The doctor understood that a pet becomes a friend and considered the tears of his visitors to be a completely natural reaction. However, this case seemed to be something very special to him.
The doctor remembered how a man and his dog had visited him for the first time three days earlier. The man was older and didn’t speak much; his dog Naida, a nine-year-old mutt, hadn’t gotten up for several days. The man was frightened by the animal’s behavior and took the dog with him for an emergency visit. During the conversation with the vet, the man said that Nayda was the only living soul he had left. An examination revealed the dog had a serious infection and needed urgent treatment, but the medication and procedures were expensive. If the dog has not been treated. The infection would continue to spread and lead to a serious and painful death of the animal. The doctor presented the man with an alternative: treatment or killing, which would allow the dog to avoid pain and suffering. Andrei made his offer very dryly, without thinking about how his words would be received by the visitor. After the doctor’s verdict, the man put some money, a few crumpled banknotes, on the table, took the dog with shaking hands and left.
Three days later, the man and his friend stood at the door of the clinic: “I’m sorry, I could only raise the money to put her to sleep so she doesn’t have to suffer,” the man said without looking up from the floor. Already in the office, the man asked for a few minutes to say goodbye to his friend. Andrey Aleksandrovich watched the pain of this couple parting and clearly felt the injustice that reigns in the world. Sometimes people with money don’t value life, neither other people nor animals. This old man and his mutt showed such reverent feelings that money cannot buy, but due to lack of money, they had to say goodbye. The doctor couldn’t contain his feelings, he went up to the man, put his hand on his shoulder and promised: “I will treat Naida, without money, I will help at my own expense.” Naida is not old yet, she has to spend a few more years with you. The old man just sobbed in silence. In just seven days, Nyda was able to walk and even run on her own. With the help of an infusion and appropriate treatment, she managed to overcome the illness quickly. The vet was very happy with his work. He may not have done the most significant good deeds, but he managed to make the old man and his dog believe in people and hope for a better future.
