Under the rubble, a little girl of Syrian origin was discovered a few hours after her birth, since the child was still connected by the umbilical cord to her mother, who had not survived.
The rescue of this child was filmed and the video quickly went viral on social media. If the little girl is miraculous because she survived the earthquake , she has lost her whole family. She is now the sole survivor of her siblings as her father, mother and siblings all died when their four-storey building collapsed.
The little girl was adopted
After 10 days spent in an incubator at the hospital, the baby finally left the establishment to live with his relatives near Jandairis, in the north-west of the country. The little girl was adopted by her uncle, who will take care of her.
“The day they told us we could keep her, my joy was unparalleled, it was indescribable ,” he said. This child is the living memory of her father, her mother, her brothers and sisters. She is my soul, my life and the whole world to me. She is one of my children. She is my daughter. I will not differentiate between her and my own children. »
The little girl was named Afraa, in homage to her mother who bore this first name.
