It is disturbing to dream about someone who has passed away. According to popular belief, contact with a deceased person in a dream, either through conversation or listening, portends unexpected news or significant changes in your life. However, the interpretation might give you pause, as it is claimed that the presence of a deceased person in the dream indicates that they have not yet found rest, and religious texts advise performing more rituals to fulfill their wishes. Psychologically, a dream about a deceased person (that you don’t know) could mean the end of a certain phase of your life. It could have to do with “dead” emotions and broken social connections. However, if the person you are dreaming about was close to you and recently passed away, you should not be alarmed as it just means that you are still suffering from that loss, which is completely normal.
You might feel unmotivated, like you’re walking on eggshells, and like you can’t move forward in life no matter how hard you try. Therefore, the deceased person in your dream may represent a part of you that you want to let go of. There are numerous interpretations, depending on the circumstances accompanying the appearance of the deceased person in the dream: – If he is still alive and takes part in the plot without playing a main role, the dream is associated with a buried love for that person, which is painful, in addition to other very disturbing or strong emotions. – If the deceased person plays a significant role in the dream plot and you try to help him, it shows that you feel that something was left unresolved between the two of you when he was still alive. – If the deceased person tries to give you advice, this suggests that you need guidance, security and comfort in real life. Maybe your dreams are an expression of how helpless and alone you feel. Such a dream in which a spirit guides you can be incredibly comforting.
Four types of similar dreams were classified in a 1992 research on the subject. In the first type, the deceased is seen in the dream, shocking the dreamer. These dreams, sometimes referred to as “resurrection dreams,” accounted for 39% of research participants’ dreams. They involve a form of denial of the death of a loved one. The second type, which comprised 23% of dreams on this topic, is the one in which the dreamer receives advice from the deceased person. They usually appear a long time after death and convey happy emotions, showing that the dreamer has accepted the tragic situation. The third type of death-related dreams is the one in which the deceased person says goodbye and assures the dreamer that everything will be okay. In research, 29% of patients reported such dreams.
The fourth and final type is the one in which the dreamer reflects on his own existence while thinking about the deceased loved one, giving a philosophical tone to the dream about the deceased. These dreams represented 18% of all cases. So the subconscious is trying to deal with loss and pain when you dream of a deceased person, but you might already accept the idea that a loved one has passed away and have gained wisdom and a sense of security from such a dream. These dreams are not the most common, regardless of the results, so pay attention to them and try to decipher what they are trying to tell you about your current mental state.
