Pui was wandering solo around Bangkok, barking at strangers and sniffing in garbage dumps when he discovered a peculiar package. The four-legged hero, who identified the stuffed plastic bag as an object of interest, gently squeezed the handles of the bag between his teeth, and took it out of the trash to take it to his family. The sweet little red dog came across a white plastic bag, filled with something that seemed to be moving.
Carefully picking it up from the dump, Pui carried the bag by its handles and carried it back to its master, Gumnerd Thongmak. Once he got home, he placed the bag on the patio and barked loudly to get his owner’s attention. According to the Bangkok Post, Thongmak’s 12-year-old niece Sudarat was the first to respond to Pui’s urgent calls. Joining the puppy on the bridge, Sudarat eagerly opened the package he presented to him. When she saw what was inside, she screamed for her mother. A shocking discovery Inside the plastic bag was a newborn baby whose umbilical cord was still attached. Sudarat’s parents rushed the tiny, weak baby to the hospital, where doctors determined he had been born prematurely — at about seven months — and weighed just 4 pounds, 8 ounces.
The baby received oxygen and other treatment at the hospital and survived the tragic ordeal. “It’s lucky that little Pui found the baby. It was a surprise for us, because little Pui never brought anything home, just barking at strangers when he goes for a walk,” said Sudarat’s mother Pummarat, who declared interested in adopting the child. “It must have been fate that brought us together. After being named a hero for saving the girl’s life, Pui received a leather collar and medal from the local Red Cross chapter. The Thongmaks also received $300 to help feed their furry hero, as well as the three other dogs who lived in the house.
