Named Winry, the 21-month-old girl is a delight for her parents and has become a social media star with her very rare birthmark on her face.
This is the story of a little girl who came into the world with a marked difference on her face. And her mother Nicole Lucas Hall has made it her mission to show just how beautiful that difference makes her.
Indeed, little Winry, 21 months old, was born with a birthmark covering half of her face. Very rare, this mark is called congenital melanocytic nevus, which is a dermatological lesion.
On her Instagram account , her mother shares her feelings about the first time she met her baby :
“When the nurses first handed my baby to me, I thought it was a bruise. My husband and I then quickly realized that it was not a bruise. I thought it looked a lot like a mole . ”
“For a lot of people, it’s the first time they’ve seen a birthmark like hers and that’s part of why I love discussing it. It’s a good conversation for families, who see that children have differences, or for parents who have a child who looks like Winry or has a birthmark of some kind .
However, if her mother sees it as an atypical mark of beauty, this nevus puts little Winry at risk. In fact, she could develop melanoma.
“His health and happiness are our top priority. I constantly have to put sunscreen on her. I also put hats and appropriate clothes on him,” she confides.
Beyond that, her mother also fears the bullying that Winry might suffer growing up, but in the meantime she “beams with joy” .
