Ignored at the shelter for her permanent grimace, this little cat finally found happiness by being adopted
“I saw her picture and I fell in love the second I saw her. At first I laughed because the photos were very funny and I had never seen a cat like that before,” Francisca Franken told The Dodo reporters. In the aftermath, she immediately wrote to the shelter to find out if the cat was still available for adoption . She was so nervous waiting for an answer that she couldn’t sleep the next night. And when the shelter finally called her back, they couldn’t believe she really wanted Bean.
“I got a call from a friendly lady at the shelter who asked me if Bean was really the cat I wanted to apply for because apparently no one had been interested in her before. The woman who called me was afraid that I had the wrong animal or something like that,” she said.
Before arriving at the shelter, Bean lived as a stray cat in an area reserved for people living in caravans or mobile homes, no one really cared for her and gave her the attention she needed then. She suffered from an eye infection and other ailments and had never known the love of a home. But to her delight, Francisca Franken was determined to change that.
Moreover, she remembers her arrival at the shelter as if it were yesterday: “A woman led me to her room, and what I saw was much more beautiful than I could imagine. Bean was so tiny and so small. She has very short legs, a short tail and the flattest face I have ever seen. I started crying when I walked into his cubicle because I was so upset. She was not at all as I had imagined, she was so much better. A lot of people who saw her at the shelter said she was ugly, but to me she’s the most perfect there is. Without waiting , she brought Bean home and the young cat made sure her new mom knew how grateful she was.
An unconditional love between Bean and his new mother, as well as a passion for olives
Today, the two new friends leave each other more and spend most of their day together. Between caresses and games, they never get tired of each other and seem totally fulfilled as well. Bean sleeps in bed with Francisca Franken every night and makes sure to be in the same room as her. But aside from the one that gave him new life, Bean’s favorite thing in the world is olives. Yes, the cat loves them and goes completely crazy as soon as she smells them!
This attraction of cats for olives is explained in particular by the fact that, like peppers, they contain chemicals called isoprenoids whose composition is similar to that of catnip . Bean is so obsessed with these salty treats that she yells at her mother every time she sees her take the olives out of the fridge. “The first time she stole an olive was when I was serving an aperitif and she ran up to me and snatched the olive from my hand, picked it up and snuck up. ran off to eat it under the couch,” her landlady said.
Fortunately, olives are safe for cats if eaten in moderation. So Francisca takes the opportunity to give him some as a reward from time to time. It must be said that pleasing Bean is all that matters to Francisca Franken, whose main objective is to make her little furry ball happy, especially with all the sadness she has already experienced. “Bean isn’t really an emotional support animal but she has helped me through some tough times and I can’t put the love I have for her into words. She represents the world to me and deserves all the love we give her after having lived through such difficult times before coming to my house,” she explains.
In any case, from now on, Bean seems to be in good hands and we can only rejoice!
