Baby Born 17 Weeks Early Survived A Parents Refused To Unplug His Breathing Machine

In England, a premature baby with little chance of survival defied doctors’ predictions by returning home after spending 280 days in hospital.

Little Chay Jefferys is in a rage to live.

The latter was born prematurely at 23 weeks, on June 2, 2021. On that day, the infant weighed only 454 grams. Doctors also diagnosed him with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

After being resuscitated, the newborn was rushed to intensive care before being transferred to the University Hospital in London (England). At the scene, Chay was placed on an artificial respirator to be kept alive.

A real fighter
Unfortunately, his health deteriorated when he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage, as well as white matter damage: “It was so scary, he was so small, he fit in the palm of my hand” , Megan, Chay’s mom, told The Epoch Times.

Three weeks after coming into the world, the little patient saw his kidneys deteriorate. Faced with the gravity of the situation, caregivers suggested that Megan and her husband disconnect their son’s breathing apparatus. But the parents refused.

Against all odds, Shay defied doctors’ predictions by staying alive. However, his lung disease kept him out of hospital for nine months. Miraculously, he was allowed to go home after 280 days in hospital.

Today, Shay weighs about six kilograms and continues to gain strength, to the delight of his family: “It’s so nice to give him baths (…) We are so proud of him ,” said Megan .

Of course, the road to recovery is still long, but Shay is strong enough to break down all obstacles. “He still needs some oxygen, but the doctors think he won’t need it in a few months, that’s wonderful. He is undergoing physiotherapy treatment . This therapy consists of improving the physical health and motor skills of the child.

At home, Shay stays with her precious teddy bear and plays with her toys.
