Danielle Davis was faced with a life-changing decision when her husband, Matt Davis, was in a catastrophic motorcycle accident just seven months into their marriage. Doctors recommended taking him off life support, saying that was what they would want for their own family.
“They said if it was them, they would pull the plug,” Danielle recalls.
Rejecting medical advice, Danielle made the heartbreaking choice to keep Matt on life support, counting on her faith for a miracle.
“I believed that God could help him through it and that the situation wasn’t too bad for God,” she said.
Matt returned home to the devoted care of Danielle and his mother-in-law. Danielle was determined to make her environment as comfortable as possible.
“If it’s going to be a body in a bed, let’s give it the best view in the world,” she commented.
Months into his home care, Matt finally spoke up, saying, “I’m trying. » What followed was a slow but sure recovery, both physically and mentally. One particular moment highlighted the return of his personality: Matt requested a “Cheddar’s buffalo chicken wrap,” much to the astonishment of everyone around him.
The journey continues
Although he has regained his mobility and long-term memory, Matt does not remember the early stages of their relationship or their marriage. Nonetheless, he had some wise advice to share with other husbands.
“Take out the trash, because there might be a day when you can’t do it,” Matt advised.
