Carlos Fresco decided to take his dog, suffering from leukemia, for one last walk along his favorite route. By transporting the animal aboard a wheelbarrow, the man was able to enjoy a last moment with his life companion.
Carlos Fresco is a man who lives in Wales, and has a little dog named Monty. For years, the two friends hiked in the Brecon Beacons, a mountain range in the region. When he reached the age of 10, Monty fell victim to leukemia.
“I knew Monty was dying because his cancer had come back. He was diagnosed 18 months ago and has responded very well to chemotherapy. But unfortunately his leukemia came back eight weeks ago and he declined very quickly ,” said Carlos Freco.
For one last trip, his master decided to take his dog for a walk in the mountains, which was his favorite route. He put Monty on a wheelbarrow and started climbing Pen y Fan peak.
Along the way, they met many walkers who stopped to greet Carlos and give Monty a hug.
“He liked walks in the hills. I improvised and took him on a trip around our wonderful beacons. Even though he was weak, he enjoyed all the commotion and attention received by so many well-wishers. The people on the hills were so kind and just as sad about his deteriorating condition ,” Carlos said.
Among the people Carlos met, several asked him if they could help him push Monty aboard his wheelbarrow. Many of them also shed a few tears, as a sign of compassion. Sadly, the little dog passed away on June 21, 2021, after battling cancer for 18 months.
“This little guy touched so many lives. He made everyone he came in contact with smile. Our little companions never judge, always wait for us and comfort us when things don’t go well. He really was a special dog ,” said Carlos.
Thanks to his master, Monty was able to enjoy one last walk and receive lots of love.
