Certainly, it is certainly not the benevolent gesture of a single individual that will erase poverty or change the destiny of another person forever, but it is certain that what one can do on its small scale represents often an incredible improvement for someone else. Murilo is a young Brazilian hairdresser who was not indifferent to the wish of a homeless man, Marcos, on his birthday. The man living down the street told the young man that he had been praying a lot because he wanted to find someone to share this special day with and a slice of chocolate cake. With these words, Murilo decided to give the less fortunate man an even bigger gift.
Murilo goes to church often and it was on leaving his parish that he had the opportunity to talk to Marcos, a homeless man who wanted someone to spend his birthday with. Instead of buying her a simple chocolate cake, as Marcos wanted, Murilo wanted to give her a whole day of care and attention. Being a barber, Murilo gave him a beard and a haircut , but first allowed him to take a nice bath to cool off.
Apart from the hair treatment, Murilo also bought clothes for the homeless man and invited him to dinner with his whole family. Marcos never imagined he would meet someone as special as Murilo as he sat on the church steps that morning. Besides, it was his birthday: he won’t easily forget it!
It’s clear that a haircut and new clothes won’t drastically change Marcos’ life, but they are still an important gift that gave the homeless man a break from the exhausting street life. Often people who find themselves homeless have no choice but to live on the streets, even if they want to change their lives and make a new start.
