Life didn’t work out for Clifford James Herbert. Due to illness, he found himself without a job and then without a roof over his head. Doctors described his condition as hopeless and, according to them, had only a few weeks to live. He no longer expected a miracle for himself, but dreamed of a miracle for his dog, his only friend. And a miracle came to him – in the person of a kind woman who granted his last wish – to find a loving home for the dog.
On a cold December afternoon, Jenin-Lacett DeShaizer of Fresno, California, saw a sad homeless man on the street with a dog curled up in his arms. They looked so touching that Jenin decided to approach them and spoke affectionately to the man. It turned out that the man’s name is Clifford James Herbert, and his dog is Baby. At one time, Clifford James Herbert worked on a farm and had a small workshop. But in 2006, he lost both his business and his job, as he became disabled due to complications after heart surgery and a tracheotomy.

Soon he found himself without a roof over his head, and now he was dying of cancer: doctors announced that he had several weeks to live. He no longer thought about himself, but he was very worried about his dog. It was with her that his one last wish was linked. Herbert asked Jenin DiShaizer to find a new home for her faithful dog, where she would be loved and live out her entire life. According to the dying man, he took the dog away from the man who had beaten her in front of him. “She is my whole life,” Herbert DiSchaiser said. – She is my best friend. She protects me. » DiShaizer reached out to GoFundMe, a community co-funding platform, to help Herbert and his dog find a roof over their heads. People responded to his request – Herbert was paid for a room in a motel, and for Baby, there were new owners who wanted to take the dog into their home. Baby now has a loving home and a little girl as a friend and playmate.
