While Emma James was mowing the lawn in front of the house with a lawnmower, she discovered a hole in the ground. Over the course of the day, the pit grew to a depth of 2 meters. What was even weirder was the fact that there were rusted steps inside!
Although the pit is no longer large enough for a man to squeeze through, authorities believe the tunnel these people discovered in their backyard leads to a canal that was covered over 35 years ago.
The two men contacted the company that built the house in 1984, but it could not tell them where the tunnel led. This is what Emma says: “It’s very strange that there are steps going down but we don’t know what and there is no blanket covering them. Over there, there is cement and rusty metal. We just want someone to come and tell us what it is, I don’t want to leave a pit like that in my backyard.”
The town hall finally confirmed to them that the tunnel leads to a pipe covered in rum for 30 years, but the two spouses are not convinced until someone comes to check. Despite all the authorities’ assurances, no one is sending anyone to actually check what she has.
The spouses hope that another pit will not appear or that someone will fall into it. Even though they just didn’t want to cover it up, before they found out what was wrong, they had to use signs to stop people from falling into it.
